Dynamic Card Solutions Receives Notice of a U.S. Patent Allowance for its Unembossed Instant Issue Printing Method of Financial Cards

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—(July 27, 2010) — Dynamic Card Solutions (DCS), the leading provider of instant issuance and PIN selection solutions for banks, credit unions and retailers that issue magnetic strip, EMV and contactless cards, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued the company a Notice of Allowance for a patent encompassing proprietary instant issuance printing technology for unembossed financial cards.

The application, titled ‘Real Time Card Printing Systems and Methods’, describes the ability to produce financial cards from blank card stock, including the ability to print unembossed financial cards instantly using reverse retransfer film with inhibitor panels.

DCS’ technology enables the instant issuance of any unembossed financial card – including debit, credit, ATM or prepaid cards. This technology includes the ability to print standard background designs, custom images, cardholder’s name, expiry date, logos, PAN and CVV/CVV2 codes in real time on full, over-the-edge retransfer film, instead of directly on the card, using inhibitor panels for areas that the retransfer film will not adhere to — such as the signature box and magnetic stripe. The high-definition image and personalization information is transferred via heat and pressure onto both sides of branded white stock, providing greater permanence and increasing durability.

“We are extremely pleased about the patent claims being allowed and subsequently issued for our unembossed technology printing method,” said Ron Zanotti, senior vice president of DCS. “DCS pioneered the instant issuance of unembossed financial cards using retransfer printers with inhibitor ribbon panels, and this patent validates our role in the industry as a leader as well as our ongoing commitment to offer innovative card issuing technology to our customers.”

With DCS’ thermal high-definition printing method for unembossed cards, financial institutions can offer a multitude of cards and images without increased operational difficulty and investment expenses. This capability greatly increases the number of instantly issued cards distributed at branch locations, thus increasing activation and usage rates.

In 2007, DCS was also awarded a patent on their flagship instant issue software, CardWizard®. A Notice of Allowance is a written notification from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that a patent application has cleared an internal substantive review and is nearing issuance. DCS expects this new patent to be issued later this year.
